My trip to New York city Day 3

The third day , we decided to visit the Upper West Side and another part of Central Park and we ended at Midtown Manhattan.
We had our breakfast at the Carnegie Deli , whose motto is :
" If you can finish your meal , we 've done something wrong "

In our case we couldn't finish our breakfast although we wanted so!!!We ordered The Woody Allen (Lotsa Corned Beef plus lotsa Pastrami), Long John Sandwich (Liverwurst ,sliced egg , onion and tomato) a fresh orange juice and a New York style egg cream!
The Carnegie Deli is located in midtown Manhattan on 7th Ave. between 54th and 55th Streets and was opened in 1937 adjacent to Carnegie Hall. The Carnegie Deli was the favorite hangout of comedian Henry Youngman, and Adam Sandler included a reference to the deli in "The Chanukah Song" in 1996. The walls of the deli are nearly completely covered with autographed pictures of celebrities who have eaten there. Menu items have been named after famous patrons, including a corned beef and pastrami sandwich named after Woody Allen after the deli served as a filming location for Broadway Danny Rose. A number of items on the menu feature Broadway themes and Yiddish vocabulary, including dishes like "nosh, nosh, Nanette" (after the musical, "No ,No Nanette") and "the egg and oy" ("The Egg and I"). There are also some humorous items in the menu, like the famous liver sandwich named "50 Ways to Love Your Liver" after the Paul Simon song "50 Ways To Leave Your Lover." It is a place many reporters in the city frequent, including staffers from Black Rock (aka the CBS Building) like Bob Simon.
In their site www.carnegiedeli.com you can find their famous cheesecake recipe!!!

After this delicious breakfast we went to the Columbus Circle , named from Christoffer Columbus and it appears in a number of films including It could happen to you , The Devil wears Prada , Home Alone 2 , Taxi Driver , Enchanted , I am a Legend and in the movie Ghostbusters..In the middle of Columbus Circle there is the statue of Columbus and in the background there is the Time Warner Center.
We continued our walk at the Upper West Side with a heavy rain.... We passed by the Lincoln Center and we stopped to the Levain Bakery to buy : "possibly the largest most divine chocolate chip cookies in Manhattan " by New York Times.I bought the chocolate Chip Walnut Cookie , it was delicious!!!

Our next stop was Zabar's where we bought a nice cup of coffee and we bought a mug which was a dollar.Great deal right?

That was the day that we visited for first time a New York's Museum. As you can easily understand from the picture above ,  we were ready for a long hour visit to American Museum of Natural History (AMNH). There were so many exhibition halls to see , that we couldn't decide with which to begin. We started with Rose Center and Planetarium. We watched the show "Journey to The Stars" which was quite interesting. The ticket was an extra but it was totally worthy. There were lines to watch the show , so be sure to manage to be the first to get inside so  you can choose nice seat!We also visited Akeley Hall of African Mammals , Arthur Ross Hall of Meteorites , Bernard and Anne Spitzer Hall of Human Origins , Harry Frank Guggenheim Hall of Gems and Minerals , Minstein Hall of Ocean Life  where we astonished by the 94-foot (29 meters) long blue whale model , which is suspended from the ceiling behind its dorsal fin , Fossil Hall and the Art of the Diorama.

IMPORTANT NOTICES :
To organize your visiting time , go to the site ( www.amnh.org ) to download the museum's map and the floor plan. There are so many exhibitions and don't forget to find out some special ones! The major problem is that museums have always queue waiting for  tickets , so a nice way to overcome this difficulty is by purchasing them online. We have bought the New York City Pass ( www.citypass.com) which helped us to save money , time and to visit 6 must see New York attractions!!!Its cost was 79$ per person.

After visiting AMNH we went to eat at Gray's Papaya a delicious hotdog and a mouthwatering milkshake. As you can obviously find out , Gray's Papaya also features in the 1998 romantic comedy film You 've Got Mail and appeared in  Sex And The City , in the 2002 episode :Plus One Is The Loneliest Number...
We visited Dakota Building which was the home of former Beatle John Lennon from 1973 on, and was the location of Lennon's murder by Mark David Chapman on December 8, 1980. As of 2010, Lennon's wife, Yoko Ono , still has several apartments in the building. The Strawberry Fields memorial was laid out in memory of Lennon in Central Park directly across Central Park West. Every year, Ono marks the anniversary of Lennon's death with a now-public pilgrimage to the memorial, and by placing a single lit candle in the window of one of her apartments. In the film Rosemary's Baby, the Dakota is used for exterior shots of the apartment building where the couple lives. In the film Cruel Intentions, the Dakota is used for the exterior shots of the apartment building where Kathryn and Sebastian live.It is an important element in the novel Time and Again.
We walked inside Central Park with direction 5th ave with hail!!!I have to mention the fact that in our week trip we faced all weather possibilities!!!In that day's 5th ave. visit , we had more time to spend in shopping. We entered into Abercrombie&Fitch ( i love the smell , the light and the music of this store ) , Henri Bendel ( Henri Bendel is a favorite shopping destination on Gossip Girl. The Gossip Girl Season Two Premiere Party was actually held at Henri Bendel and many dresses and accessories used on the show come from Henri Bendel, including both Serena and Blaire's prom dresses. Henri Bendel was used as a shooting location when Jenny Humphrey calls her brother Dan having a "fashion emergency" as she looks for a dress for the Kiss on the Lips Party.) , Tiffany&Co ,Juicy Couture , Louis Vuitton and Cartier .

We stopped for a coffee break at Starbucks located inside Trump Tower , which is the 52nd tallest building in New York City.We admired the waterfall inside the building where we took some nice pictures.

We walked at 5th ave. until The Public Library , Bryant Park.We had a lot of shopping bags , so we had to return to our hotel.Close to our hotel was a Sephora department ( Times Square ) that was opened until 24:00.So i had a chance to continue shopping , despite the very , very bad weather !!!! (hail and snow)

My trip to New York city Day 2

The second day , we waked up early in the morning in order to take the bus with destination "Woodbury Common Premium Outlets". This is a 55 minutes trip from Manhattan. We had booked our tickets online one month before we visited the City.We traveled with Gray Line bus from NY Port Authority Bus Terminal at 09:15a.m (the first  transportation is scheduled at 08:15a.m). We decided to take the 09:15 bus because outlet opens at 10:00a.m.The tickets cost 42$ per person to and from outlet and include a complimentary VIP coupon book with hundreds of dollars in addition savings. The time we arrived the outlet was almost empty and we had the opportunity to enjoy shopping. There are so many stores to visit for shopping in very attractive prices  and for this reason i advice you to organize a full day at the outlet and do not forget to bring with you a big luggage for your shopping bags!

We visited : Polo Ralph Lauren ,Tommy Hilfiger ,Aldo , Guess,  Tory Burch , True Religion , The North Face , Nike , Nautica ,American Apparel ,  Gap outlet , Juicy Couture , Levis Outlet Store , Timberland , Coach , Kate Spade , Ugg Australia , Converse , Barney's New York Outlet  , Samsonite , Burberry , Dior , Fendi , Gucci , YSL , The Cosmetics Company Store , Yankee Candle.
The truth is that you have little time and so many things to see , so what is best for me ?Take a look at the site of Woodbury Common Outlet ( http://www.premiumoutlets.com/outlets/outlet.asp?id=7 ) check out the map and where the stores you are interested are and then plan your visit.
DO NOT FORGET YOUR LUGGAGE!!!

I am a European citizen so what i found out as a good strategy was to concentrate at the American labels which i found so far cheaper compared with Europe ones. Thus i invested in Polo Ralph Lauren  goodies  , Juicy Couture , Tommy Hilfiger , Tory Burch , Gap , Aldo etc.Nevertheless i could not resist in the temptation of visiting some European labels such as Balenciaga  , Dior , Fendi , Gucci , YSL but i was disappointed by the luck of the variety of the products (I suppose that this situation depends on how lucky one is ). Consequently , i regard that the best thing one has to do to buy cheap European Labels is to visit European Outlets where the variety is greater.I cannot forget the great deals that i found in Mall Outlet in Florence!!!
We returned with the bus of 18:58 with many shopping bags in our hands....we wanted to stay more as we had some stores that we would like to visit  , but the next and last bus was scheduled at 21:26.So we preferred to spend our night in Manhattan.Do you notice that i do not mention anything about coffee or food???The answer is that we didn't have any!!!Time goes by so quickly that you forget them , and you pay attention just on shopping!!!
When we arrived at Times Square , we were starving and we decided to have a dinner at Fridays.(If you are from Greece and you have tasted Kefalari's Fridays , don't try New York's Fridays! You will be disappointed !)

IMPORTANT NOTICE:
If you make an online reservation for the bus , you have to print your voucher and follow the printed instructions for redeeming  your ticket at Gray Line Office!!!

My trip to New York city Day 1

This trip was a dream that had existed from my childhood and     finally came true!!!

Lets start with the airlines.Athens - Frankfurt with Lufthansa Airbus A321 and Frankfurt - New York with Singapore Airlines Boeing 747.The following photos were taken inside Singapore Airlines!!!

We landed at JFK airport and we reached our hotel DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Times Square(by the way the welcome cookie was fantastic!!!) by taxi. This was our first amazing view of the city. The theaters of Broadway and the huge number of animated neon and LED signs have long made them one of New York's iconic images, and a symbol of the intensely urban aspects of Manhattan. Times Square is the only neighborhood with zoning ordinances requiring building owners to display illuminated signs.

We left our luggage and we started walking around Big Apple.First stop was at Rockefeller Center and then we stopped for a cupcake at Magnolia Bakery. (We tasted Priscilla Cupcake , a pistachio cupcake glitzed up for Broadway)

Afterwards we visited a part of Central Park and we took some nice photos in front of historic and beautiful  Plaza Hotel and grand army plaza.
The French Renaissance Château-style building was designed by Henry Janeway Hardenbergh and opened to the public on October 1, 1907.
The Plaza was accorded landmark status by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission in 1969; it was designated a National Historic Landmark (NHL) in 1986. The Waldorf-Astoria is the only other New York City hotel to be designated as a National Historic Landmark.Long the site for famous performers and guests, it has also been the meeting place for important political meetings. The nationally known singers Eartha Kitt, Liza Minnelli, Kay Thompson, Andy Williams, and Peggy Lee played the Persian Room; unaccompanied ladies were not permitted in the Oak Room bar; and women favored the Palm Court for luncheons and teas. The Beatles stayed at the Plaza during their first visit to the United States in February 1964.On November 28, 1966, in honor of the publisher Katharine Graham, the writer Truman Capote hosted his acclaimed "Black & White Ball" in the Grand Ballroom.
It was a setting for some movies and tv series: Funny Girl , The Way We Were , Scent of a Woman , Home Alone 2 : Lost in New York , Sleepless in Seattle , Almost Famous , Bride Wars , Gossip Girl , Sex And The City , Friends.

We continued with a short route in 5th Avenue.First stop was the famous Apple store. The very minimal entrance is a crystal cube with a structural glass spiral staircase , winding around a cylindrical glass elevator that leads to Apples' underground store. It was manufactured  by  Bohlin Cywinski Jackson Architects. It reminds to me I.M Pei's Pyramid at the Louvre , Dominique Perrault's Hotel Industriel in Paris and there is a similar structure in Shanghais' Apple store.
5th Avenue is characterized as a definite must for prestigious stops and as the most expensive street in the world. Some shops that we managed to visit were
  • Saks 5th avenue
  •  Juicy Couture
  • Tiffany & co
  • Abercrombie and Fitch
  • Sephora
  • Gucci
  • FAO schwartz
This first and tiring day finished with a great taste adventure  at Shake Shack!
